    1-A  Introduction

What Takes Place:   Just before the  *Bride‘s  entry, the translator will announce the following:

Translator's Words:   My name is    _______________________  For those of you who are less fluent in English,  I will express the highlights of this wedding ceremony for you in your native language.

    1 - Procession / Entrance to  Wedding  Site

What Takes Place:   Once the bride is standing at the alter, the guests are invited to sit down, the bride's escort (if she has one)  is acknowledged.   The minister  signals the translator to read section   #2-A below)

   1a - Acknowledging the Escort 

Translator's Words:   Reverend Cote´ will now ask:   “Who escorts the bride  and gives his blessing to this couple in their marriage?" 

What Takes Place:   The escort places the bride and groom's hands together, and then either sits in a front row seat or takes his place as part of the wedding party.    The bride and groom stand facing each other, in profile to their guest, and in profile to the officiant.   The minister  signals the translator to read section   #2-b below)

   2a - Greeting  the  Couple ---Introduction

Translator's Words:   Reverend Cote´ will now welcome,  *Bride and *Groom. to this marriage ceremony.    His words will include the following lines:

"Welcome,    *Bride   and   *Groom    to this momentous time  and to this sacred space where you are surrounded by your family and by your friends, who have gathered here to witness your marriage & to share in the joy of this special occasion." 

What Takes Place:   The couple is then welcomed to their wedding ceremony, and the purpose for their being there is briefly stated.   Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 3-A  below.

   3a - Greeting  the  Guests

Translator's Words:   Welcome, dear family, friends, and honored guests.      *Bride   and   *Groom      have invited you to join them here today to support, to witness, and to share this moment with them as they make a public declaration of their private commitment to each other.

We invite each of you to join with us in this celebration  by contributing your support and best wishes for     *Bride   and   *Groom  .   Please open your hearts and surround them with your love.

What Takes Place:   At this point, the greeting is expanded and the guests are invited to participate in the ceremony by contributing their support and best wishes.   They are told that they are here to witness the marriage and to celebrate with the bride and groom as they become husband and wife in their presence.  

Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 3-b  below.

  3b    Thanks to Guests, Family and Friends  

Translator's Words:       *Bride   and   *Groom     have asked me to acknowledge all the people in their lives both family and friends who have meant so much to them over the years,  including all of you who are here with us  and those who cannot be with us today.

What Takes Place:  The minister is sometimes asked to acknowledge and say thank you to someone special, such as parents, the host, or the person who introduced them to each other.   Occasionally, the minister is asked to share with the guests some personal information about the bride and groom.   

Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 4  below.

   4a - Introduction  to the Ceremony

Translator's Words:   From days dating back before recorded history, people have been drawn together in times of  great joy, to lift high their voices in celebration.   So it is that we have come here together in the presence of God to witness and to commemorate the  bringing together of two families.

   4b - Invocation  --- Gathering of Energy  (With Prayers)

Translator's Words:   Reverend Cote´  is about to ask each of us to invoke that which we hold most holy and most sacred, and to please silently add our support to his prayer of gratitude.

If  *Bride  &  *Groom want to have the prayer  translated, 
the following prayer is usually spoken.     

Translator's Words:   "Heavenly Father, creator and preserver of all mankind, giver of all spiritual grace & love,  thank you for sending your blessings on this couple,     *Bride   and   *Groom  .   Thank you for guiding and inspiring to ever remain in steadfast love, in true commitment, in lasting peace & in joyous harmony together.   Amen." 

What Takes Place:  This is the first of three places in the ceremony where the spiritual content is brought in.   Like all other aspects of the ceremony, brides and grooms choose the spiritual content of their ceremony.

Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 5  below.

   5a,b, & c - Asking   of   Intention

Translator's Words:   Reverend Cote´ will now ask     *Bride   and   *Groom     if they want to be married to each other.   He will ask each of them if they have come here today freely with the intention of joining themselves together in the bonds of marriage  ---   if they desire to live together as husband and wife  from this day forward. 

What Takes Place:  The first of the two aspects required by state for a legal marriage.   Traditionally, the groom is asked to answer first.   

Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 5d  below.

   5d - Step into the New

Translator's Words:   Next, Reverend Cote´ will invite      *Bride   and   *Groom      to step forward out of your old lives and into the new  ---  to let this day mark a new beginning.

Commonly the Bride and Groom are asked to take a step toward the minister.

  6 - Reading -- Sharing -- Words of  Love

Translator's Words:    Whatever readings, songs, etc that  the  bride and groom have chosen, if any, are usually added here.

What Takes Place:  This is an optional area   It's an excellent place to add a song, a poem, or words meaningful to the bride and groom.   Usually the words are  read by a friend or family member.   The officiant may be asked to do the reading.   This is also an excellent place to add a song, either recorded or performed live.   Occasionally,  the bride & groom may choose to speak words of love to each other.

Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 7  below.

   7 - Minister’s Words on Marriage

Reverend Cote´ will now read a passage on love and marriage.   The reading includes the following lines:

"On this day,  the day of your marriage,   you are creating the most loving   and most intimate relationship that two people can share.    Treasure your love.   Rejoice in its vitality.    and above all, Nourish its growth, for you have been endowed with the greatest gift of all  ---  the gift of a shared love,   It is that shared love which allows you,    even motivates you to turn to each other in search of a greater fulfillment   than either can achieve alone."

What Takes Place:  This is a brief statement about love, nurturing, and sharing;  focused on the bride and groom and designed to lead into the vows which are the high point in the wedding ceremony.   Occasionally this portion of the ceremony may include special words or special themes, depending upon what the bride and groom desire.

Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 8  below.

   8 - Marriage  Vows

Translator's Words:    Reverend Cote´ will now invite     *Bride   and   *Groom      to express their vows of love & commitment to each other.

   9a - Introduction to the exchange of rings

Translator's Words:    Reverend Cote´ will now ask     *Bride   and   *Groom      to hold in their hands, the rings they are about to give each other.  He will say a few words about rings including the following lines:

"Rings have been the symbol of marriage through the ages.   They symbolizes your mutual commitment to share your lives .   They are a reminder of this day and the promises that you have made to each other."   

What Takes Place:  Wedding rings are held by the bride an groom while the officiant briefly speaks about the meaning and symbology of exchanging rings.  

Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 9b  below.

   9b - Blessing Rings  

Translator's Words:    Reverend Cote´ will now ask       *Bride   and   *Groom     to join him in saying thank you to God for blessing the rings.   The prayer includes the following lines:

"Heavenly Father,  'The-Source-of-Everlasting-Love,'  thank you for blessing these rings, as symbols of shared lives, mutual commitments, and everlasting love.   Thank you for filling these symbolic circles with love, joy, peace and happiness." 

  "  *Bride   and   *Groom     wear these rings as an outward, visible symbol of your inward union of hearts.    Let the love you share shine forth for all the world to see.      Amen."

What Takes Place:  Officiant the briefly holds rings, bride and groom place their hands over the rings, and the rings are blessed.

Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 9c  below.

   9c - Exchanging  Rings

    *Bride   and   *Groom     , will now exchange rings and say the following lines:

When giving the ring each will say:

“With this ring, I marry you, and join my life with yours in love”.

When receiving the ring each will say:

“I accept your ring and all that it symbolizes”.

What Takes Place:  The couple exchange rings.  

Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 10  below.

   10 - Symbolic  Acts

Whatever symbolic acts the  bride and groom have chosen, if any, are usually added here.

10-1  Unity Candle: 

Translator's Words:    As the first loving act of their married life,      *Bride   and   *Groom      will now  light their unity candle.  

10-5  Sharing Wine: 

Translator's Words:    As the first loving act of their married life       *Bride   and   *Groom      will now participate in the ritual of sharing wine.

What Takes Place:  This is another optional portion of the ceremony.   About fifty percent  of brides and grooms choose to add something here.   It may be any of dozens of symbolic acts such as lighting a unity candle, sharing wine or fruit juice, etc. 

This place in the ceremony is also commonly used to add another reading or song; similar to what is done in step six, above.

Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 11  below.

   11 - Blessing

Translator's Words:    Next, Reverend Cote´ will invite you to once again join him in silent support of the final blessing for     *Bride   and   *Groom      and their marriage.

"Heavenly Father,  thank you for pouring forth abundance & grace on this newly married couple.   Thank you for filling them with Your Light & Your Love  ---  for filling them with clarity, that they may easily & effortlessly love one another as you have loved them.   Thank you for gracing them with patience, compassion and wisdom that they may bring forth beauty, joy and harmony in their marriage, now and all the days of their lives together."

What Takes Place:  This is the third of the  three places in the ceremony where the spiritual content is brought in.   It follows the style, format, and spiritual content of the initial blessing done if step four above.   It is often spoken as a prayer of gratitude for the blessings bestowed.

Officiant / minister  signals the translator to read item 12  below.

   12 - Pronouncement

Translator's Words:    And now, Reverend Cote´ will pronounce     *Bride   and   *Groom      to be husband and wife,  includes the following lines:

  *Bride   and   *Groom     because you have spoken vows of love and commitment and exchanged rings,    I may now joyfully say to you that you  are one heart, one flesh.   You are husband & wife, together."

This is the second of the two things required by the state for a legal marriage.   The officiant acknowledges that the bride and groom are indeed married.

   13 - The  Kiss

Translator's Words:    And now, Reverend Cote´ will invite the     *Bride   and   *Groom      to seal their vows with a kiss.

What Takes Place:  The kiss

   14 - Introduction

Translator's Words:    And now, Reverend Cote´ will introduce     *Bride   and   *Groom      as husband and wife,  includes the following lines:

"Divinity has said:   “I have set before you   an open door   that no man shall close.”    And I say to you:    Step over the threshold, together   hand in hand,   and take your marriage into the world.     You are blessed!"

During the ceremony, the couple have been focusing their attention on each other and listening to the officiant.   They are now asked to turn and face their guests.   They are then introduced for the first time officially as husband and wife.

   15 - Recession / Exit

Translator's Words:    None

What Takes Place:  The bride and groom exit the ceremony site followed by the remainder of the wedding party.    The order in which people leave the wedding site is covered on the page titled:   Wedding Rehearsals.
