Most couples have a rather limited level of knowledge and experience regarding two vitally important issues: "How to Plan a Wedding" and "How to Plan a Marriage." Planning a Wedding: merchants merchants ...As a result, when planning their wedding, they listen to the advice of the so-called wedding experts. If you haven't already noticed, the vast majority of these people are merchants who are trying to sell you something. Thus, they have a conflict of interest between serving you and making money. When those two interests are in conflict, guess where their primary loyalty lies? Planning a Marriage: And you've probably also noticed that the so-called experts tell you absolutely nothing about what a marriage really is° and even less about planning your marriage. An Unlimited budget: If you have an unlimited budget, then listen carefully to these people. They will provide you with a splashing, dashing, all-the-bells-and-whistles, wedding celebration, which pretty much ignores the content of the ceremony, itself. Go ahead and take the price of a brand new car or the down payment for your new home and spend that money on a party. A Reality Check:Can we get real for a moment? If you're like the rest of us, 1) money matters, 2) your wedding is a joyous heartfelt celebration of your love, and 3) your marriage is deeper and more important than a party. A wedding ceremony is not about impressing your friends, or having the correct table settings at the reception, or giving each of your guests a useless gift, or wearing an outrageously expensive white dress. There is another way: Your marriage is about the two of you. It's about your love. It's about the rest of your lives together. It's about creating and maintaining a new family unit. So if you want a lasting, loving, joy-filled married life, you must intentionally create it. Why? Because, as divorce statistics so plainly tell us, it's not going to happen by accident. . What We Do. ...Let's begin by distinguishing who we are and what we do as a wedding consultant from those called a wedding coordinator, a wedding planner, and a wedding site coordinator. Wedding Coordinator/Planner: A wedding coordinator and a wedding planner do pretty much the same thing. They are the detail people. They assist you in any way you ask them to. They tell you what they think you need to do for your wedding; they show you how to do that; they connect you with all types of service providers; they answer your questions. They guide you through your wedding planning and are there for you on your wedding day to see that everything is taken care of in its intended fashion. If you are planning a big and expensive wedding celebration, they can be very helpful. Wedding Site Coordinator: A wedding site coordinator usually works for a particular wedding and reception site such as a club, a hotel, or a special event facility. Their job is limited to the wedding site. They guide you through the wedding rehearsal,' if you choose to have one. For the ceremony itself, they guide you regarding where to come in from, in what order to enter, where to stand, and in what order to leave the wedding site. Their job is to be there on your wedding day to see that everything relating to the wedding site is handled properly. They don't get involved with your personal wedding details. Wedding Consultant: As a wedding consultant, our job is to be a teacher, a guide, a mentor, and a role model. We also assist you in being an excellent bride or groom and in becoming, being, and remaining a loving husband or wife. We are not task doers. The doing is for you and for your wedding coordinator, if you choose to hire one. Regarding the wedding, we show you choices and options that you probably won't hear about from other people. We answer all your questions from an objective perspective because we are not trying to sell you anything. We can save you anywhere from a few hundred to several thousands of dollars. We do offer you an extensive list of wedding service providers. (primarily for the Los Angeles area) If you choose to use any of them, that's between you and them. Our job is to talk to you about what you are doing and what you are planning on doing. Our job is to teach you about "being," which is far more important than simply having a party. If you'd like a premarital discussion about the consequences and responsibilities of getting married, we offer you that service, also. If you have any questions or doubts about getting married, you should definitely call on us for an objective outside perspective. Our job is to help you make informed decisions about your wedding and about your relationship with your marriage partner. We want to be sure you understand what a marriage is, what it means, and how to master the art of relating to your husband/wife. |
